Learn Swimming

in Clothes - Lesson 2

Theory: Quick drying clothes

Sportswear is made from functional lightweight but robust fabric and can be cheaper than many branded swim shorts or briefs. In warm weather you can keep it on after a swim and it dries quickly. Some footie shirts can be a bit itchy, so wear a T-shirt underneath.

Practice: Swimming in sportswear

Required clothing: Soccer/Footie kit, cycling gear, running tights.

In this session we swim in various types of sportswear. Find out what works best for a given activity. You can layer these clothes to suit the required level of training resistance.

Footie Kit is good for an easy warm-up exercise. Swim several lengths dressed in your footie kit. If you teach a class do a kit race. In this race they swim in football kit from one side to the other, then get out and trade kit with someone else on their team. It's nice fast paced fun.

Running tights are especially easy to swim in. Most have a waist band to keep them in place. Others reach up over your shoulders. Combined with a T-shirt they make a lightweight outfit for training sessions that include both running and swimming.

Go for a run to the beach or a pool, swim for a while, and run back. By the time you get home your clothes are almost dry. Don't forget to shower afterwards.
