Adventure Racing

Adventure Racing is a multi-sport team challenge. Teams of three or four people, depending on the race type and distance, travel together through a course that will challenge your physical and mental conditioning in an environment that demands teamwork, while providing lots of good, dirty, wet fun.

The 'adventure' in adventure racing involves the unexpected. No two races are the same: the race distance, order of events and terrain all change depending on the location and type of the race and, if that weren't enough, none of these details are revealed until race day.

How Does It Work?

Using an OS map and a few given clues, you have sevsral hours to collect as many control points as you can, almost all of them on or near bridle tracks.

You choose how you split up your time (though most people reckon on 2 hours running and 3 hours biking). Once you ‘dib in’, you receive a set number of points, varying from 5 to 50. The winner, both of the race and the series, is whoever collects the most points.

Adventure Racing Canada

This company offers you the largest number and selection of races across Canada. From the new three-race Salomon Winter Adventure Race Series to the Subaru Adventure Racing Series which includes twelve spring and summer races, in eleven locations across Canada.

Both series offer a race distance to suit every taste - from the first timer or active weekend warrior to the serious athlete and experienced adventure racer.

Race distance and difficulty vary and include:

Urban

The Subaru 'Urban' Adventure Races are designed to bring the unforgettable experience of adventure racing to the uninitiated. Whether racing for the first time or looking to sharpen your team's skills and speed, these races are a challenging, yet attainable goal.

Enduro

With total race times ranging between 5 and 8 hours, the Subaru 'Enduro' Adventure Races are the fastest growing, most popular distance in adventure racing.

Winter Enduro

Due to popular demand, Adventure Racing Canada has introduced the 2002 Salomon Winter Adventure Racing Series, a 3 race series (2-Ontario, 1-Quebec). Teams of three will compete together in Cross-country skiing, Snow shoeing and Mountain Biking using topographic maps and compass. The races take between 4 and 6 hours to complete, and teams will require a certain amount of navigation skill.

Overnight 24 Hours

Subaru Overnight 24 hours Adventure Races are for those racers (co-ed or same sex teams of three or four) looking to take your racing to the next level, this long course race will take between 24-36 hours of non-stop racing to complete.

The races combine trekking/trail running, mountain biking, paddling and navigation; with cross country skiing and snow shoeing added to the mix in the winter. And if that's not enough... teams are also expected to complete special tests that are located throughout the course. Designed to challenge and confuse: these tests could include rope work, wall climbs, mind games, mud pits and water hazards.

Each race offers a variety of Race Divisions for participants. Teams are encouraged to compete in the Co-ed division (i.e. minimum of one member of each sex on the team), but there are also Open divisions (i.e. All Male or Female teams) and Master's division (i.e. total team age of +120 years).

All teams are rewarded with a post race meal and entertainment, souvenir item, a chance to win one of many prizes and the satisfaction of participating.
