"I work with boats and often have to go into the water fully clothed." ~ Ramon

Watersport Jobs

Do you get wet as part of your work? We'd love to hear some stories. Tell us all about it.

Pool attendants look after resort guests who may ask to help them in the pool. They also clean the pool and pick up bits from the bottom.

Pool lifeguards can be recognised by their uniform which they also wear in the pool when helping a swimmer or for staff training.

Beach lifeguards wear sun protection clothes to stay sun safe on the beach or in the sea when they assist some swimmers. They patrol the beaches, take boats out, and often practice their skills on and in the water.

Others rent out boats or jet skis. They help people get in and out from the beach, or swim out to get a moored boat. Quick drying clothes give them sun protection while they get in and out of the water all day long.

Beach Rental

Posted by Nueng in Chiang Mai, Thailand on April 12, 2014

During public holidays, like Songkran Thai New Year, it gets very busy at our beautiful lake. It becomes very colourful from all the different clothes people wear in the lake.

Our beach shop rents out floats (truck tires) to beach goers. They pay a small fee and then float on these tires or play around on them with their friends.

My job is to go and collect the tires once they have finished and gone home. Usually I just collect them from the beach or shallow water. Often I have to wade into the water and swim out to the tires.

Like most people working on the beach, I am fully clothed to avoid sunburn or a sun tan. Because of my work, my clothes are wet most of the day, so they have to fit well and must be easy to swim in.

T-shirt and jeans are my usual work clothes in the lake. They help me stay cool and are easy to swim in.

I also like the Thai Fishermans pants made from lightweight cotton. They are very soft and comfortable. I enjoy swimming in them and they look great both wet or dry.

During my lunch break I change into dry clothes to eat and relax, but they too get wet as soon as I return to work in the lake. I enjoy this lifestyle.

pool fun at rehab centre

Camilo works at a Rehab Centre

I`m a counselor in a Rehab Centre. We have a farm and we have a pool. Sometimes I invent games around the pool. We usually end up in the pool fully clothed as nobody bothers to bring swimwear.

We go for a walk sometimes, and the preferred place to go is the local creek. I try to get all the guys to wear jeans and hoodies for the walk. They always go into the creek to cool off. It is the best work I ever had.

Bruce worked in a Restaurant

When I was a teenager, my parents ran a restaurant. I was one of the dishwashers. What a wonderful soaking wet job. I spent the next 5 summers with my jeans totally soaked.

As soon as I arrived, there would be a pile of dirty dishes, so I would rinse them off with a sprayer, with the dish deflecting the water to my jeans. In less than five minutes, the front of my jeans and T-shirt was totally soaked.

Sometimes I wore a jean shirt with long sleeves, so I would fill the pots and pans sink up to the brim with water and place a number of dirty pots in the water at the bottom, so I would have to reach down to the bottom to retreive them, soaking my shirt sleeve to the armpit. Then I would bring the pot to the surface with it full of water, place the pot against my stomach and vigorously scrub it out with water heading down my shirt and jeans.

Often I would have to take the mats out of the dishwashing room and hose them off. This was another soaking wet adventure.

There was a river between our house and the restaurant, so often I would walk in the river to get to the restaurant, thereby arriving totally soaked. The waitresses, (who are still friends of mine), could not believe how soaked I was at all times.

Sometimes, my mother would ask me to clear tables, so I would put an apron over my soaking wet jeans attire, and head out to do that, but generally I was in my dishwashing room. I also did the lawn at the restaurant, always in completely soaked jeans.

Steve Does Dive Jobs

I scuba dive frequently and often am called to do dive jobs for different people. They always expect me to show up in the regular neoprene wetsuit (which I have to wear in the winter due to it being so friggin cold).

But in the warmer months they are always surprise when I jump in in just my regular clothes, like jeans, hoodie, boots and all. Then they laugh about it and all is well.

The last job I did this week, the guy said: "You're going in with just your clothes?" and his wife said: "Honey, he always does that. Where you been at?" Then after he got done laughing, again, all was well. He obviously had no problem with it, I'm going out next week for another dive job for him, with the same wet "suit".

Mr Dolphin Cleans Pools

I have a mate who washes cars and loves getting wet doing that. He wears waterproofs in the winter but not in the summer. He wears light combats and bark blue company shirt which dry out quickly after he gets soaked washing the cars.

I used to clean my boss' pool and his son pushed me in a few times. We are now best mates and he knows I like getting wet. He and I often swim fully clothed in the pool or sea. I also sail with him now and then and we love getting wet on the boat.
