Bodyboarding is a form of wave riding using a bodyboard, which consists of a small roughly rectangular piece of foam, shaped to a hydrodynamic form.
Bodyboarding is popular as an amateur activity among travelers. A bodyboard and flippers (fins) are all you need to upgrade from swimming to bodyboarding.
Although bodyboarding is often mistakenly considered surfing's easier cousin, people who do both disciplines reckon that beyond the beginner level they are equal in the time, dedication, and skill required to become proficient.
The bodyboard is ridden predominantly lying down ('prone'), maybe in a half-standing stance known as 'dropknee', or even standing up. The vast majority of bodyboarders usually wear swimfins on both feet to aid in controlling trajectory, paddling out and taking off.
To go bodyboarding in jeans or other regular clothing may not give you the fastest rides, but it's being done. Some hardy creatures enjoy this sport in T-shirts, lycra rashvests (rashies), and other sports clothes.
However, the best attire for this vigoruos sport is a wetsuit. One interesting trend we've noticed is to wear a T-shirt or Anorak over the wetsuit. Looks good.
