Wacky Wet Week Report
April 22 - 28, 1999

After arriving in Miami Stefan and Poolboy met at the hotel and went for a swim on Southbeach. Poolboy wore his jeans and a white tank top and Stefan wore lightwight cargo pants and a pertex anorak to protect against sunburn. There were a couple of surfers in the water in black lycra tops that glistened in the sun.

In the evening there was a big firework display to start the Wacky Wet Week off. We don't know who organised it, but it was a nice gesture. Afterwards they had dinner at a restaurant in Miami's Art Deco district.

Then they spent some soaking days in Ft. Lauderdale. It is amazing to see how few people wear more that just shorts. On a 1 mile stretch of Ft. Lauderdale beach there were only 3 wet t-shirts to be seen; way less than in Britain during the summer.

We need to do some educating here, this is still a developing region (wet fashion wise). However, the beach traders are already set up and stock 'amphibian clothing' like anoraks that you wear against sunburn. They dry very quickly and look good. It was very relaxing to float in the hotel pool in that outfit.

Early in the morning Stefan had a swim in the sea and then in the hotel pool wearing his new baggy Levi's. They are a bit harder to swim in, which provides a good exercise, but are fun in the pool. They make nice slurpy noises when you get out of the water. Poolboy was soaking up the sun most of the time. They also met Aquaman (aka Otter) at the airport and then drove down to Key We(s)t.

Grand Opening Party on poolside at Big Ruby's (www.bigruby.com), a beautiful hotel in the center of town. Everyone got soaked. Wow, did our fifteen readers have a blast or what ! Aquaman gave a free CD-ROM to all in attendence with lots of pix and a few dripping wet .AVI files. Thanks, Aquaman.

As the evening tempratures cooled we all went into the pool which was at 94'F / 34'C real warm. We all wore jeans (or the like), t-shirts or porlo shirts, etc. It was great and provided good entertainment to the other guests. They talked all evening long how they got started, how they found this site and what next year's Wacky Wet Extravaganza should be like. A special "Thank you!" goes to Jim & Jack (and their team) at Big Ruby's for putting up with all this. They were great sports.

The next day they spent a great day out on the beach and in the water. To avoid sunburn they were all fully clothed, of course. In the evening they went to watch the sunset at the harbour. There was a 'Skinny German Jugler Boy' (that's what he called himself) who was quite funny. When he mounted his unicycle he asked his audience to step back a little. Aquaman, MattG and Poolboy apparently stepped back a bit to far and fell into the water. Again, we have pix; they are in Poolboy's camera and will make their way to Felix eventually.

Later that night they went clubbing, some went to other bars and eventually ended up in some hotel pool. Stefan went home and hopped into the hotel pool at Big Ruby's. There were still some guests talking and splashing. They had seen our party the night before and got interested in wet clothing, etc. He probably told them more than he knew and enjoyed floating under the stars and coconut palms. What a wet life!

The next day some readers went to Busch Gardens in Tampa.
