Are people asking silly questions?

Some replies from your Wacky Felix:
  1. Just say you forgot to take your swimsuit.
  2. Say you just feel more comfortable in jeans than shorts.
  3. Say you're afraid to get sunburned, or you have a sensitive skin condition that does not react favourably to direct sunlight. Your mum is probably concerned about that sort of thing so it gives you a good excuse to swim in clothes.
  4. Intrepid swimmers and divers don't need any excuses, nor do they offer any explanations.
  5. Just do it and say: 'Oops !'
Things you can do:
  1. Attend foam/pool parties.
  2. Swim in clothes to avoid sunburn.
  3. Join a watersport club or the Scouts.
  4. Engage in sports that get you soaking wet:
Canoeing, Lifesaving, Sailing, Surfing and Windsurfing, etc.
  5. Practise for an endurance swim. Lifeguards do this too.
  6. Use quick drying clothes like anoraks and nylon sports wear.
  7. Take advantage of getting caught in the rain, then have a shower.
  8. Learn how to be 'accident prone' near water. Go ahead, be clumsy. :-)

It is also worth noting that clothes were initailly meant to keep us warm. So where is the logic in taking them off when you enter a somewhat colder environment, like water? Keep them on and enjoy your watersports longer. You may have to dry more gear afterwards, but that's better than getting cold or a sunburn.

Your clothes dry off in a short while. Stings from beasties in the sea, pneumonia, or skin cancer through sunburn can kill.
