The pictures of the 'Laakhaven' in Den Haag were taken on a regatta organized by the city and every quarter was represented by teams of boys. A very famous radio-presentator was the speaker. He and the other organizers were very surprised, that some of the participants are jumping in the water after reaching the finishline. Most of them were dressed in there normal clothes.They swim just in the eye of my camera. Somewhat later there came a small steamer with a dozen guys. They have a rope with a round board, which they use to 'ski' behind the boat. Some of them did with there normal clothes. It was possible to ride behind the boat without to get wet. But when you want to stop or to turn it was hopeless. I tried to make pictures, but the distance was to far to big. I run with my camere to become closer. Nothing helpes.... Only the poor picture Laak046 was the result. After some time the steamer came of shore and I talked with them. May be they were riding again ? May be I could try ? It was a pity. I have to go home afterwards with some nice picts, but completely dry...

De Laakhaven was een roeiwedstrijd voor jongerenclubs uit de omringende wijken. Theo Komen was de presentator en werd totaal verrast door het feit, dat de bemanning van sommige boten bij het bereiken van de finishlijn over boord begonnen te springen. Ze zwommen recht in het oog van mijn kamera. Ook was er een groep jongens met een oud sleepbootje, die zich verveelden en op een ronde plaat hardboard volledig gekleed achter hun bootje gingen waterski-en. Er zit een onooglijke foto bij vanaf enorme afstand genomen. Ik heb naderhand nog gevraagd of ze straks weer gingen skieen en of ik soms zelf eens een keertje mocht proberen. Helaas het wat te koud, geen zin en ik bleef die dag dus helemaal droog.
