Brighton provides plenty of opportunities for getting wet in your clothes.

In Summer forget your swimming costume. There are no pool attendants to object so jeans have been common swimwear for years. Add a tee shirt for sun protection and trainers to protect your feet from the shingle, and you will have a practical and convenient swimming costume. Just what you might wear in the street in fact. You could even slip down to the beach after work, like the lad here shown enjoying a refreshing fully clothed swim. Take care and enjoy yourself.

In Autumn the storms arrive. These can be observed from the promenade but the best views are from the ends of the two groynes to the west of the Palace Pier (now renamed with no respect for its history - "Brighton Pier"). There you can experience the feeling of being right amongst the waves as they roll in and break on the base of the groyne, throwing up spray to be blown in by the wind. You may get a little damp (British understatement for "soaked to the skin") so dress up well and accept this small sacrifice for an incredible experience, just like the lad in the yellow jacket did. His mate thought he was mad but we know better, don't we?
